(English) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung held a working session with Vietnam War Veterans’ Association (VWVA) in Hanoi on Mar. 13.

He praised efforts and outcomes of operation by the association and its chapters over past years, attributing these achievements to the country’s socio-economic development.

Analysing advantages and challenges for the country in 2012, he asked the chapters at all levels to continue upholding the tradition of “Uncle Ho’s soldiers” and promoting potential, contributing to successfully fulfilling the nation’s socio-economic goals.

He went on to say that chapters at all levels should launch and carry out movements to help veterans’ families with difficulties and promote the association’s role in caring for and protecting the interests of veterans.

They need to coordinate with authorities at all levels to encourage their members and people to implement the Party’s resolutions and State policies, the PM added.

The VWVA has developed at all levels, with nearly 4 million members undertaking a wide range of activities. The association launched patriotic movements and encouraged veterans and people to take part in charitable activities, VWVA President Lieut-Gen Tran Hanh said in the association’s report.

The chapters took an active part in building and defending the Party, the Government and the socialist regime, and in promoting the revolutionary tradition to the younger generation, contributing to maintaining socio-political stability, especially at grassroots level.

This year, the chapters are making preparations for their congress at all levels, advancing to the fifth national congress of the Vietnam War Veterans’ Association, for the 2012-2017 tenure.
